From coast to mountains to rainforest, Peru has a few cocktails and beverages to try while traveling through. Here, find a collection of some of our favorite must try drinks we tried around Peru.
Pisco Sour
Probably the most famous mixed drink in Peru, it is made with whipped egg white, citrus juices, bitters, simple syrup and mixed with pisco (a local distilled alcohol).
Maracuyá Sour
Pisco sours come in many flavors but the maracuyá, or passionfruit, are particularly delicious!
Chilcano
A cocktail mixed with pisco, ginger ale, lime or lemon juice and often flavored with other local tropical fruits. This cocktail is light and very refreshing.
Peruvian Wines
Peru is also well known for its wines, especially sweet wines. Be sure to go wine tasting in Ica or Arequipa.
Cusqueña
A lager style beer is famous throughout Peru and a go to light beer. Try other light beers like the Pilsen and local beers from independent breweries.
Craft Beers
Craft beers were harder to find until we got into places like Lima, Huarez and Cusco. Beer drinkers should be sure to scout the local beer scene in these cities.
Chicha Morada
Made from purple corn, chicha morada is a traditional non alcoholic drink mixed with local spices.
Fruit Juices or Smoothies
Fresh fruits like strawberry, pineapple, passion fruit, and so on are blended into juices to enjoy any time of day.
Inca Kola
A very sweet soda known as champagne soda is a local favorite but may taste like bubblegum flavor to some.
Coca Tea
When climbing into the mountains it is almost obligatory to take a sample of coca tea. It is known to help reduce the effects of altitude sickness (although not recommended for serious sickness).
Coffee
In the Amazon regions, coffee is grown locally and while not all cities in Peru have good coffee, the tropical regions have incredible coffee!
